We are fast approaching Mud Mask day, on the 30th September! We have put together some great information for you, so whether it’s a treatment you want to add to your list or something you already offer to your clients, you’re fully loaded with the knowledge to really push it!
Mud masks are a skincare treatment that can be used on both the face and body! They are enriched with benifical ingredients because they are are made from various types of mud or clay.
Clay or Mud:
This is the base ingredient, helping to absorb excess oil, dirt and impurities from the skin.
Helping to soothe and calm the skin, botanical extracts like aloe vera, chamomile and green tea can be included.
Charcoal can help to draw out impurities from the skin.
Minerals can provide nourishment and revitalisation to the skin. Mud masks can contain minerals like magnesium and calcium.
Some masks can contain essential oils which can have all different benefits.
The use of a Mud Mask can be a stand alone treatment, it can also be added on to something like a massage. There are many benefits too –
Deep cleansing – helps to draw out impurities.
Mineral enrichments – helping to nourish the skin.
Detoxifying – the ingredients can aid in detoxifying the skin.
Exfoliation – The textures of some mud masks can provide gentle exfoliation, removing dead skin cells and promoting a smoother complexion.
Hydration – Mud masks can help to maintain the skins moisture balance.
Relaxation – The application of a mask offers that moment of selfcare, its so relaxing with a spa-like feel!
A mud mask is a great addition to any face or body treatment. It can be one of the last steps of a facial treatment, before you apply a serum and moisturiser. Whilst the mask is working its magic, you can perform a relaxing scalp, hand or foot massage. That goes for a body treatment too – whether it’s a full body mud application or just the back – whilst the skin is soaking in all the good stuff, relax your client further with a scalp massage!
There are many ‘add on’ options you can offer with a mud mask –
Facial – facial mud mask
Body – full body / back mud mask
Manicure / Pedicure – mud mask hand / foot application
Now I know this part can be off putting for some! Of course it’s an easy peasy option if you have a shower within your salon or treatment room, but I know that’s not the case for everyone! Hot towels are the next best thing. They remove products easily and feel so amazing, it makes the treatment even more relaxing! Have a practice on a staff member, family or a friend to perfect the removal.
