SHOULD I OFFER RADIO FREQUENCY IN MY SALON?
Today, we talk about whether radio frequency is the right treatment for your salon business.
In a salon business, every hour counts. Once it’s passed, it’s passed.
So we need to get the most out of each and every minute we have available.
That’s why increasing the result – and thus the charge we apply to time – can be so powerful in your salon.
Of course, the issue we always face is knowing what we should be offering and why.
The decision must always come from you as the business owner – but with the right facts and figures in front of you, you can make more balanced decisions around what is right for you.
Today, we talk about radio frequency, how it works and how it would look in your business.
Radio Frequency Facts –
Safe for all skin types
Takes around 20-45 mins to deliver
Results temporary but effective
Multiple treatments required for good results
WHAT IS RADIO FREQUENCY?
Radio frequency is a super popular treatment in the salon right now. And no, it’s not about tuning into the right station!
Radio frequency is a treatment designed to gently heat the skin surface up to around 45 degrees to incite a reaction that ultimately tightens and lifts the skin. It helps to generate new skin cells, collagen and elastin.
It’s a low down time, comfortable treatment used in many salons now as a gentle, but effective anti-aging tool.
HOW DOES RADIO FREQUENCY WORK?
Radio frequency uses electrical energy to heat the dermal layers of the skin, creating a reaction to produce collagen and elastin.
A hand piece is moved over an area of the skin for a limited period of time, heating the skin to a temperature that stimulates collagen contraction and neocollagenesis
Radio Requency can also be used to lift skin, fight cellulite and contour bodies.
A handpiece is used over small concentrated areas of the skin, working area by area to heat the skin to the desired temperature. A hand held thermometer is often used alongside to help you to track the skin temperature.
WHAT RESULTS CAN YOU GET FROM RADIO FREQUENCY?
The results from Radio Frequency are temporary but effective. They work on two levels in that the skin will usually show some lift immediately. But will also benefit over time from the induction of collagen and elastin.
Post treatment, clients are a little pink, which calms very quickly and creates almost no down time.
Radio Frequency is particularly effective at lifting jowls.
WHAT CAN YOU CHARGE FOR RADIO FREQUENCY?
Radio frequency can be delivered as a single treatment or alongside other technologies – a popular one is microneedling – you can read our blog about that here.
RF alone takes between 20-45 minutes and you can charge between £50 – £150 per session depending on your location, efficacy of your machine and clientele.
You can also charge more for larger areas on the body like abdomens and thighs.
4 – 6 sessions are recommended to get great results.
WHAT DOES A MACHINE COST?
From £500 to £5000
Some machines offer Radio Frequency as one element amongst many, and some work solely to deliver Radio Frequency.
