September marks the month of Skincare Awareness!
There are many ways for you to talk about skincare awareness to your clients, from the importance of sun protection, overall skin health and pushing those proper skincare routines!
The importance of sun protection –
Skin Health: good skin protection helps maintain healthy skin. Preventing irritation & dryness. Conditions like psoriasis and eczema can worsen if the skin isn’t well protected.
UV Radiation: Prolonged sun exposure can lead to skin damage, increased risk of skin cancer and premature ageing. Shielding your skin from UV radiation from the sun is vital!
Premature Ageing: Protecting your skin from the UV rays can slow down the ageing process – wrinkles, fine lines and age spots.
Even Skin Tone: UV protection can promote a more even skin tone, by preventing pigmentation and dark spots caused by the UV rays.
Skin Cancer Prevention: Wearing sunscreen and protective clothing can significantly reduce the risk of skin cancer. Skin cancer, including melanoma, is one of the most common types of cancer.
Skincare routines –
There can be many factors to a skincare routine, depending on your client and their skin needs of course! Let’s have a look at some –
Cleansing – removing makeup, dirt and impurities from the skin.
Toning – A toner will help to rebalance the skin.
Serum – Serums usually contain the highest active ingredients. It will target specific concerns, for example hyaluronic acid for hydration.
Moisturiser – Keeping the skin hydrated.
Night Cream – Usually a little thicker than a day cream.
Eye Cream – Eye Creams can target specific concerns like fine lines, dark circles or puffiness.
Exfoliation – Helps to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. There are chemical exfoliants (AHAs or BHAs) or physical exfoliants (‘scrubs’)
Masks – Again, masks target specific skincare concerns, hydrations, oily skin etc. You can get clay masks, cream masks, sheet masks and more!
Healthy skin is a combination of many many factors. You can talk about –
Staying hydrated – drinking plenty of water.
Getting enough sleep.
Managing stress – talk about stress reducing techniques (you can find our blog about relaxation ideas HERE!)
Having a healthy, balanced diet.
Having a healthy lifestyle – smoking and alcohol can have a negative effect on the skin.
And as above, having a good skincare routine and sun protection will massively benefit the overall health of the skin.
Be sure to really talk about skin health and all the facials you offer this month. Offer consultations so your clients really understand how important this is. Talk about the retail you offer and how it’s important to use the correct products at home too.
Good skincare is 50% facials and 50% good homecare!
